I started off the day fishing from shore at Lake Union casting deep diving cranks and caught 2 dink largemouth around 1/2 - 3/4 lb. I was happy that I caught one the first time using my new Rapala DT10.

Anyways, onto the main report.
After finishing up at Union I decided to go to Larson to catch some Black Crappie with pika206. When we first arrived, we were throwing lures for bass but I got kinda bored or should I say anxious to catch crappie so I put down the bass rods and reached for my ultra light. I was using small jigs under a small float with about 12 - 15 inches or leader. Depending on where I was casting I would shorten or lengthen the leader.

After 4 casts in, around 7:30 pm while it's still light out, I get my first bite, set the hook and fish on! It's not a big one but it was my first crappie of the year so I was excited. It was about a 6 incher. After I released it, about 2 casts later, I cast out, get a text message, and as I am reaching for my phone my bobber goes down and I set the hook. But in the 2 seconds it took me to put my phone back in my pocket and reach for the reel, it shook off. As the sun started to set, the crappie made their way into the shallows and by 9 pm I had landed 15 Black Crappie and lost about 5 or 6 at shore. When they get hook in the side of their mouth, it just tears like paper and they shake off way too easily but oh well. Pika206 also caught several crappie himself, I don't know how many but he got into them too.

The smallest caught today was about 6 inches with the biggest being around 8 - 9 for me but I think Pika206 caught on that was 10+ inches. All in all it was a fun day with lots of action. Didn't manage to get that monster crappie to bite but perhaps somehow I will.

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!
To the Gentlemen that was there fishing with his wife and son (I'm assuming) I believe you left a fishing rod at the first spot you were fishing. I found it in the dark just before we left. Please send me a PM describing the rod/reel so that I know it's really you and not just somebody trying to claim / score a free fishing pole.

It's a blast fishing under a float, no matter the size of fish, it gets my heart pounding to see the bobber go bloop! Thanks for saving the day with the crappie tackle. I also tried the same jig out at Greenlake in the heat of the afternoon, caught one rock bass and one scuplin. Hilarious.
