After reading a lot about fishing in Lake Union I decided to give it a shot this morning. Got a late start and had to spend some time exploring to find out where to fish from. Parking on the South Side was very full or cost money so I headed to Gasworks. Fished from the west end of the park near the police boats. I caught a ~1lb Smallmouth there on a rainbow trout colored Rooster Tail. Moved around the park's water front trying various lures, but had no more luck. Moved to the ship canal west of the Fremont Bridge, but had no luck there either. Still fun getting my first Smallmouth in many, many years. Even the small ones have a ton of fight in them.

good job on breaking the ice and getting your first smallie in a while. the weather is washington quickly turned to crap and the water temps are dropping quick. fish are staring to feed heavily but are nowhere near as aggresive as they were a few weeks ago. slow down your presentations and use more finesse methods. spinner baits, crank baits, and other fast to moderately fast moving lures have been much less effective the past couple weeks.
