Went out trolling for Cutts. on the big lake with "Gort" from the website. We launched at Mercer Island's launch so that we could spend a little time trolling I-90, before heading to the South end of the lake. Launched at 0745, threatning skies, but it turned around into a decent morning.calm water. While fishing the N. side ofI-90 we had two other boats doing the same. The kokanee were jumping quite a lot in that area. There were a few other jumpers that were quite larger. Did not see any bait balls on the finder.... but then again, I haven't got the new fish finder completly dialed in. (man. do I miss the Humminbird) Had 2 hard releases from the DR, which I think were actually hits and not just releases. Byron had a nice hook up that took his gear out of the clip, however the leader to the mini green splatter back hootchie broke off. That was the first time I've had a leader break while trolling, bummer! We scooted down toward the south end. Dropped the FishTV into the water for a looksy at the bottom just to show him how it works. Fun thing to play with fo find bass cover.
Fished around the mouth of the Cedar, no hits. Trolled our way back up the East channel. about half way back in 30' of water I was fishing a perch pattern Brad's Cut Plug. It came out of the clip. I got excited of course, but then I felt a large mass on the end. I was able to move the mass, I new I wasn't hung up. There were no head shakes, nothing. About half way into the boat I can feel that it is a fish. It doesn't begin to run or head shake at all until just a few feet from the boat, very strange I thought. Turns out to be a 3 lb 2oz. Smallie. I usually catch largies, so this was my best small mouth to date. Funny to catch him while trolling a Brad's Cutt Plug though. I know it happens.
Also caught a kokanee, and the line snap occured while fishing mini hootchies, green behind Rocky Mountain dodgers.

Nice bass, I like to use 10#or 12# fluorocarbon invisible leader when trolling, to minimize leader failure.

I'll second the use of a 12lb leader for the hootchies and other gear trolled in Lake Washington. I'm betting that a blackmouth was responsible for your leader failure, as they hit like a freight train. Couple that with a mouthfull of sharp teeth and they can cut/break light line quite easily on the strike. Nice job on the smallie, they sure do like those mini cut plug lures! I've found that they have a distinct fighting pattern when hooked in deeper water, they fight real hard to maintain their original depth and location.
