I'd like to start off this report by thanks Bigbass Dez for putting on such an awesome tackle swap! If you couldn't make it out you truly missed out! There was an incredible amount of gear for absurdly low prices!
Anyways, I decided to head out to Green Lake with Ryan to try our luck while we still had about an hour and a half of day light. I let Ryan use my Tierra Combo and I was throwing one of my baitcaster combos. We try an area for about 15 minutes or so and have no action so we worked our way along the bank to another section.
Literally my first cast after moving I get a savage strike and set the hook! Fish On! This fish has my 7' M Action Casting Rod doubled over and is fighting hard! I fight the fish in and it's a nice Brown! It had all 3 of the treble hooks in it's mouth so it wasn't going anywhere. The fish was chunky and healthy, I would estimate an easy 15" at least.
About 5 minutes later, I get another savage strike and set the hook! Fish on! Just like my last time at green lake, I have managed to once again hook into a beast of a brown trout! I am fighting the fish in and it's jumping like free willy. The fishe jumped 3 times in about 10 seconds. I get it close to shore, and by close I mean it's nose kissed the grass on shore. Then it began to twirl in a tight circle and did one last jump and spit the hooks. This brown trout was literally at least twice as big as the brown I just caught. By double, I'm not refering to length, just overall size of the fish. I would estimate that fish to easily be in the 3.5 - 4 lb range.
So Green Lake has yet again defeated me in the sense that I managed to hook up with a very nice, big fat brown trout both times and managed to lose the fish right at shore both times. Also, just like last time, this fish was more silvery in tone than the usual golden brown. The fish I lost was also a rich golden brown just like the one I lost last time. I'm starting to think that the bigger, smarter browns are learning that they can get off the hook easier by rolling in circles in a savagely fast manner.
Although I was disappointed when I lost that fish, I was still in a good mood. The Tackle Swap was awesome! I scored some great stuff for unheard of prices! It was a cold brisk 36 degree day but I managed to land one brown and fight another. It was a good day indeed!
I am planning on returning to Green Lake on Sunday to test out my new rod. I scored a brand new 6' 6" M Action Abu Garcia Veritas Spinning Rod for only 60 bucks! This is going to be my new rod designated to skipping plastics under docks. But until that time comes, I'm going to test it out on the Green Lake Browns!
First pic is one Ryan took for me with my phone. Kind of Dark.
Second pic is tone that Ryan took on his phone. Better lighting and shows the fishes size a bit better.
