Fishing has been from Very Good to Excellent the last 6 times I've been on the lake. The only downfall was 2 weekends ago there was a bass tourney that lasted 2 days on the lake. During the major part of a spawn, which was
right then, this is a NO-NO!!!!!The majority of those fish did not come back to their beds! So, wasted spawn. We have so many perch and crawfish in Lk. Whatcom, and man oh man, do they ever like bass eggs for hor-dorves.
Anyway the fish are still in a spawning mode. New fish have moved up th past week. The largest caught was 5.2 lbs.Last Friday I took a great fisherman out. We pulled in 10 fish ranging from 2 1/2 to that 5.2 Momma. Of course we released all of them after a quick photo. The key to catching these spawning fish on this lake and all lakes is once you've spotted them back off 10-20 feet, flip your bait on the bed, and let it sit! Drink a cup of coffee if you have to. Keep your line tight but leave it on the bed! I cant stress that enough.
I've had success throwing tubes, lizards, spider jigs, grubs, and oh jeez I cant give away all my baits! Come fish with me and Ill show you more. Post -spawn will be here soon , actually it already is for a lot of fish on the lake. Then its time for jerk baits, spinner baits and deeper water fishing! Good Luck to all of you! Mikey
