Went behind the Spokane house on Long Lake today where I had success this fall catching smallies and rainbows. Really worked that area over today. The gates are closed, so I had to walk in about a 1/4 of a mile or so to the river. I used a bobber and clustered eggs, and a bobber and worm with no success. I found a beauty on a swirly tail grub with 3/8 oz jig. Black head, clear swirly tail. I knew their were more in there, but I kept snagging bottom and snapping my knot.
After the umpteenth re-tie, I left retaining the one bow.
Oh and by the way, The discover pass is taxation w/o representation. We already have enough fees. For those of you that this does not bother, just ask yourselves, how much is too much? Where does it stop?

Good luck out there.

kevinbe you must of not ussed your parking pass eh? they honor it till first of mach 31 bro take to court !

Hunting and fishing on WDFW-managed lands. The Discover Pass is not required for holders of certain hunting and fishing licenses on WDFW recreation lands and water-access sites. For those individuals, a "WDFW vehicle access pass" will be required for vehicle access to WDFW lands and boat launches. WDFW will honor WDFW vehicle use permits that were purchased prior to July 1, 2011, on WDFW lands through March 31, 2012.

check it out bud!

I have never got a ticket for parking in an area without a discover pass as long as I have my parking pass on my dash. I didn't know it was legal, I just figured that there weren't enough police working to check on people's discover passes. I'm glad that I know why I haven't got a ticket. I think it is stupid how they just decided one day to charge this amount of money and didn't let the people decide on it. I think the state parks should be funded by the tax payers, instead of charging more money for the people who actually go out and enjoy these places.

Hey Snake you need to read a little more of that paragraph: "For vehicle access to lands managed by State Parks, all hunters or fishers will need to purchase the Discover Pass. As a reminder, hunting is not allowed on State Parks lands." The Spokane House is part of Riverside State Park. And I agree the Discover Pass is total BS.

Discover? You mean we can claim it, like Columbus? Yes, enough is enough.

On the other hand, nice fish.

Apparently fishinchristian, they own all the land, and we only can access it through Taxes. it's now not enough to pay the fishing tax (licensing), now we need to pay the Tax to be on certain wdfw land. My original point in original post was if they can tax these areas as discover areas, where does it stop. Will they stop at this tax, or will they continue to tax more? IMO there are a lot of fees, (taxes):
boat launch tax. 7$
boat registration tax-$35
boat trailer tax-$15
general fishing tax-$23
discover tax-$30
I may have missed something. My point is it all adds up, I don't mind paying "fair share", but it gets a little out of control.

On a brighter note, That little guy was a heck of a fight. He was pissed off. He jumped 4 times doing the roll to try to spit the hook. He continued the fight on the bank, trying to make it hard to get my line back. I love winter trout. It was worth it.

Yep there's always something they'll get ya for salmon stamp is the only thing in a long time that makes since to pay extra for since we actually know were that money is going everything else who knows who's pocket it's going in lately politicians are worse than most criminals and way more blattent about stealing everybody's money I think we need to do a little culling of the politicians

@murph- I believe Snake7676 is correct; WDFW states that until March 2012, they will honor the WDFW vehicle passes in lieu of a Discover Pass at WDFW lands/water access sites. I'm glad I read this report; I wasn't aware of the Discover Pass until now.

Beginning July 1, the Discover Pass is required for vehicle access or parking on Washington state parks and recreation lands. Note: Current Vehicle Use Permits will be honored on WDFW lands for the balance of the license year (through March 31, 2012).

Another kick in the nuts is that it is non-transferable and only good for one vehicle to which it is registered. So, I have to buy another license if I choose to drive in on another vehicle. BS.

@kevinbe - Your "ticket" is odd. The brown notification states that if you were given a citation (which you were not) the fine would be $99. However, they charged you $30 instead to be paid at the paystation. That doesn't make sense. On WDFW's website it states Discover one-day passes should only be $11.50 ($10 base, $1 transaction, $0.50 dealer fee). I'm not certain how they came up with the $30 fee. You should only owe $11.50 for a day's fishing for not displaying a Discover Pass.

Jay K-
Your points and questions are all Valid ones. The most valid of them all is that it is B.S. They want to disguise their Taxes with pretty names to get us to just pay the fees without questioning the merrits, or forbid us, just not paying anymore taxes. They work for us. We pay their sallary.
I paid the $30 tax to avoid the $99 tax. I did not pursue the $11.50 day pass question as I live just down the street from a good portion of wdfw land requiring this new Tax, so I figure I'll just pay it and move on. Unfortunately, that's the attitude that allows for these kinds of taxes to take effect. If enough of us didn't pay it and move on then our wallets would do the talking, the state would lose revenue, and maybe get rid of tax out of necessity due to lost revenue.
