It was a warm night so I decided to make it my first night of bass fishing at my home lake for the season. I'd only been bassing once this year on lake Union.
When I was in the parking lot fellow WALAKER, Lord of the Fly showed up at the same time. We hit the lake. Peter combed the South side with his fly rod, and I combed the North side throwing either my usual 5" dark speckled wacky rigged Senko, or sometimes casting a cainkbait. It was turning into a night of not one single strike. No rock bass either.
Then at one point I was down the lake a ways, out from this concrete edge along the shoreline. I absolutely NEVER toss anything at this one portion of the lake because it is bare of structure, or lillies, etc. I winged my Senko right up against the wall in prob. 2' of water. A LMB hit it on the fall. When I set the hook it didn't seem like a fish. Only a couple head shakes. I have never caught bass in the Pre-spawn. I guess that is just the sluggish nature of bass in colder water. Fish measured 18" my guess was 3lb, need to by a new scale. Nice way to end a slow night. Thx. to Lord/Fly for the camera.

Good fish. Congrats. I've yet to catch my second fish of 2012. Maybe I'll go to Sammamish tomorrow if it's not raining.

I haven't caught a bass that big since I was a kid on the east coast. Just too busy with salmonoids, I guess. But that hog makes me nostalgic so I guess I shoud target some bass! Good job, bob r

Thanks guys. Well Bob R, it was a nice fish, but I will admit that there is a little MAG in the first photo. It was the first Pre-spawn bass I've caught. I thought it was a little strange that it was as tapered, non football shaped as other 18" bass I've caught. But I guess that is the nature of cold water bass.

Bravo Quadfather! I was surprised we got anything that day. The water temp was still way down, guessing just under 50F, which would probably explain the fish’s lethargic fight. You placed that cast perfectly right on top of him. I’ll bet another couple of feet to the left or right and that bass would still be sitting there. Huge algae bloom and small insect hatch was happening that day and size 18-20 chironomid casings were floating around. Visibility was about 1-2 feet. The southwest bank wreaked of pot smoke as two teens were smoking on it.

Nice fish man! I think I know the wall your talking about and it seams like an unlikely spot for a bed. Elijah's probably right about the heat. I can't wait to get out on bitter for the first time this year.
