The cool weather has really kept the fishing at Fish Lake slow so far this season. This is the second time I have fished it in the last week and by all indications, the fish have yet to get very active. Most of the hits were quite soft and the fish seldom followed the fly if they missed it the first time. I did get a few solid strikes while using a damsel pattern but a brisk wind made getting the line tight to set the hook difficult because as soon as I quit rowing, the wind pushed the boat back about 5 feet. I finally landed one small Tiger Trout of about 12 inches in a small cove that was sheltered from the wind.
Overall, in about 3 hours of fishing I had a dozen strikes, two lost and one to the net. Midges are hatching when the wind calms and damsel nymphs are present in the water.
