Took a mid morning break from my fishing at Fish Lake and decided to head to a lake a little less crowded. I arrived at Medical Lake at 10:30 a.m. and was delighted to only see 4 pontoons on the lake.
I haven't had a chance to fish Medical Lake in the last 2 years but remember the bruising battles with the Brown Trout in the lake. I was looking forward to the challenge. Unfortunately the fish were no where to be found. In 90 minutes of hard fishing and covering half the West side of the lake trolling I didn't have a strike. I also did not see a single fish rise despite a prolific midge hatch.
Upon talking to other anglers throughout the weekend, all fly fishermen reported the same results. No one had a single strike to report. We all felt like we were fishing in a lake with no fish in it but know that should not be the case. Hopefully the fish were just hugging the bottom and nothing happened over the winter to cause a fish kill. I will give it a try again sometime in May and post a follow up report.
