Fished our club tournament with a partner I often fish with. We launched from Cascade Park, and had a plan but quickly changed it since two other clubs had fished the day before. We decided to look for re-treads, and it paid off early, but then we had to go searching. We both weighed limits, all smallmouth. My partner took 3rd place, and won big fish, so he was in good money. I took 5th....no money but still a reasonable showing since some didn't even land a fish, and some didn't get a limit. We found fish scattered, mainly off of the first "break", whether that be a weed line, edge of boulders, or a drop off. We saw a few smallmouth beds, but not fish....surely they were yanked the day before. The only real bait pattern we found was that drop shotting or wacky senko's were the ticket. I did land a dandy walleye that would have been a keeper, but released it due to club tournament rules. My partner hooked what we thought would be the bass of the year, only to net a carp hooked in the tail! It easily went 20 pounds.
