Still hooked on fly fishing from the pontoon. Decided to take it out to Conconully Reservoir. Unfortunately I didn't have the luck I had last year. Granted last year I didn't fish this early in the season so maybe the lower temps have a little bit to do with that. Fishing was very slow. Getting the occasional bumps and bites, but only hooking up with one rainbow, 10-11 inches, but had a lot of energy. Must have done 4 jumps on the way to me then another 2 right next to the pontoon. Gave me a struggle because it swam right towards me, I thought for sure with all the slack that I'd lose him.
My Dad didn't have any luck going for bass. We didn't have a temperature but the water felt a lot colder then some of the surrounding lakes in the area.
There were at least 6 other small boats on the water. All of which seemed to be trolling at a very very low speed. I didn't notice any one catching fish but overheard some people from a campsite talking, I believe I heard one say he caught two from the bank.
I think next time I'll go when the water is warmer and bring the usual gear and bait.
