Had a good time fishing Green Lake this morning with my buddy Kyle. We started the morning at Lake Ballinger at 6:30 am and decided to move to Green Lake after a slow start (1 fish caught, 2 lost). We arrived at Green Lake about 9:30 am. Our original destination was the 65th St dock, but there were already 6 or 7 guys out there and I thought Kyle as a new fisherman might need a little more room. We drove North around the lake from there and saw lots of fisherman along the shore. When we got to the parking lot for the community center I noticed there were 4 - 5 guys out on the bigger fishing dock there. We decided to give it a shot. Out on the dock we met some nice guys who were all doing pretty well with power bait. Set Kyle up with an orange power egg and some green power bait like most of them were using. In the mean time, I decided to throw lures. On my third cast bam "fish on" caught a little planter about 8 inches. I quickly caught and lost 2 more when they jumped and spit the hook. Kyle decided to switch to a lure, so I set him up with a silver Meps #2. About 5 minutes later he gets excited and says he saw a fish following his lure, so he casts about 10 feet past where he last saw it and bam "fish on!" He catches his first rainbow trout, a nice fat 10 inch planter. The joy on his face was great to see and I was excited that he understood to throw the lure near where he saw the fish. We fished for about another 1/2 hour. All in all, not a bad day Kyle went home with 4 fish and we both hooked and lost quite a few more. We'll be back to Green Lake later in the week. Tight lines!

6:30am? ugh, glad that you caught fish and more importantly that Kyle is getting the fishin "bug" ps: next time you're out there, setup an extra pole for carp, you never know if they're hanging out near by, and they look good on camera!
