Hit lake riley on sunday, caught pleny of 1 lb. plus/minus bass, mostly males, was a lot of fun, but I have a more seroius topic to discuss with everyone. All of you serious bass fishermen know that we have a ton of lakes in Washington that hold bass, in fact its tough not to find one in snohomish county that doesn't hold bass. Over the years I have noticed a trend that I would LOVE to see reversed, and that is that a lot of these lakes now are full of Stunted Fish! What that basically means that there are way too many bass in any given body of water. 3 lakes for instance, Loma, Howard, Armstrong, all used to have nice sized bass in them, but just don't anymore, and I am thinking Riley is in the same boat. I have been fishing Snohomish, Island, Skagit, Whatcom, and King county lakes for 20 + years, and can tell you for a fact that some of these lakes are suffering from way too many bass. I know this is going to be a sore spot for some of you, but let me say 1st that I am a catch and release fisherman, and do believe in protecting our resource. But, THERE are times when it is a good thing to take bass out of a lake. If you are out on a lake and catch 20 dinks before noon, why not pluck 5 of em out? If we all did this, in 3 years we would all see a return of some of the great bass fishing we had here in the early 90's. Believe it or not, if there are too many bass in a lake, they actually shrink in size. do the research, I DID. Why don't all lakes suffer from this? I don't know, but lakes like Rosiegner, Bosworth, Flowing, Goodwin, Whatcom, American, Terrell, Cambell, and Big lake for instance don't seem to be effected. I do think that this problemn is mostly a small lake thing, but wouldn't it be nice to go to ANY of these small lakes and know that you have the chance of at least hooking into a 5 plus pound fish? Used to be that way . . Can be again, if we all thin out some dinks . .
very true AMX, the only other alternative would be to dump 100,000 craws or small baitfish like perch or bluegill into these waters, and do you think the state is gonna do that? lol, I think not. Thx for the positive response Quad/AMX.
