Pine is one of my frequent haunts because it's so close to my house, though I don't really like it because it's almost always a zoo. I've never bothered to take my boat out on Pine, so I can't speak for the trolling or more secluded areas, but on a regular day you can expect to be elbow-to-elbow on the public fishing pier. Not to mention a good number of families and kids in the swimming area. This is a trout lake for sure and powerbait/power eggs are the way to go (from my experience any color will do.) I'm told there are bass in Pine but the bass fishermen usually leave frustrated (myself included) which is kind of a shame because there are so many fallen logs and lilypad fields along the shore that would be heaven for a big bass. The nice thing about the lake being so busy is that the trout aren't shy and they gobble up artificial bait all day long. If you can get it, the best position on the pier is at the end of the shorter side and cast straight out- there is a dropoff in the middle that the fish like to suspend around. The best rig is a sliding sinker with a swivel and a looong leader (up to 6ft during the day and a little shorter during morning/twilight hours) and of course, powerbait. The fish that are usually caught are planter trout that most serious fishermen would release- but don't be surprised if you see folks leaving with a string of small trout way past their daily limit (fishing etiquette/laws apparently don't apply to Pine.) This is not a lake for the experienced angler looking for a relaxing time to try a range of species and techniques, but if you just want to get outdoors and possibly catch a fish while you're at it, it can be a good time.
