Are there really Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie in Sprague? I suspect that the bucket biologist could have had more success in starting these species then the State of Washington did. LOL

This is the third trip to Sprague this year, each time testing for bass and bluegills, and this is getting pretty old. On a previous trip we saw three bass, of three sizes, and that was all. This time two of us hit every type of cover, with our eyes and our lures, and we saw nothing. We poked into the reeds and saw nothing. We fished the shallow weeds and did not even get a response. We fished deep and found nothing. We found no beds, we had no hits, we saw no indication of panfish or LMB at all.

The State told us that they are putting trout into Sprague until warm waterater species have taken hold and got to size. I sure hope that they have planned on putting trout into Sprague in large numbers for several years to come, because I will need to see pictures, and read several positive reports, before I will believe that the attempt to eradicate Walleye and plant back the Bass and Bluegills was worth it.

I agree on leaving the trout in the lake and foget about all th rest . Perch and crappi are good also . large mouth and small mouth bass do alright after ten to fifteen years . carp or suckers and red eye tinch will be back and strong soon. It all depends on how many times the lake floods and the eb and floa of the floods that determans what dies on the flats of sprague and what makes it back to the lake before they die.The game department can not figure this out. Not so many trout left in the lake after the last flood through sprague . most died and some moved up to , well the other spots.....

My problem is that when they killed off the trout, they did not replant the scuds (fresh water shrimp), the sculpin, the crayfish, etc. If the crappie and bluegill did not take, then what is there for the bass to eat? But then again, it looks like that may not be an issue now either.

I fished it about 10 days ago and found 5 or 6 pairs of LM spawning and saw a dozen or more crusiers. I caught maybe 7 or 8 LM and one was almost 6 pounds. It was a perfect sight fishing type of day. No wind bright sun and no algae bloom at that point. I saw a ton of trout cruising as well. I didn't attemtp to catch them but they were pretty big. I also saw a couple of nets with WDFW marked bouyee's. They both had trout caught in them.
I saw a few pan fish but not many. I had never launched a boat in the lake before and had no expectations but I felt like the fishing was pretty decent. I caught 3 on a frog before I even turned on the big motorand left the launch. The crusing LM I saw were pretty naive and most of them bit something. I didn't catch them all but alost all of them went over and took a swipe at whatever I threw at them. I didn't post a report or pics just because I rarely feel like taking the time.

Sounds like the Wildlife Department destroyed a fine fishery at Sprague. It was a particularly notable spiny ray lake ten years ago - tons of bluegill, black crappie, and perch.
