Black Lake (Adams County) used to be a pretty nice spiny ray lake 10 years ago, particularly for bluegill and yellow perch (and the bluegills of nice size). Not sure what happened to it. After getting skunked for a while, I walked about 1/3 of the way around the lake. I saw very few bluegills in the milfoil beds (in contrast to 10 years ago), and the size was quite small. There were some decent sized largemouth bass swimming around. Ran into a CNWR officer there, and he'd seen almost nobody fishing the lake, nor heard about much going on. Although my intention had been to try and fish the holes to see if the perch schools were hugging the deep bottom, but was far too annoyed and bored to extend my skunking.

The border of the lake is heavily infested with poison ivy, making it pretty treacherous going. Doesn't make an apparently crappy fishing lake any more appealing.

Generally speaking, I'm not seeing much in the way of bluegills in any of these seepage lakes. Not sure if I'm just not finding the spot, or whether the fishery has indeed deteriorated.

Hutchinson and Shiner used to be excellent as well, until 2 years ago when flocks of cormorant and pelicans came
I haven't caught much at all since. I think they settle at one lake, clean it out then move on. Might be wrong, but that's the only related event I know of, and it was awfully coincidental. I used to love Black Lake too, but last time I was there, didn't get a bite, even in a pontoon.

Glad you told me that - I was thinking of taking my new pontoon boat out to either Hutchinson/Shiner or Black Lakes. Scratch that. The WFDW needs to figure out what is going on in these lakes. I'm getting really depressed about the bluegill or perch opportunities in the Seep Lakes. :(
