Up at 1am hit the road by 145 for the lake with my Dad and brother up from Idaho. I forgot to grab bait the night before but thought I would get some on the way up. Of coarse nothing with the bait we wanted was open. Getting to the lake just before day light we headed for noisy creek area. I ran 4 rods with 4 different set ups 2 on riggers and 2 with banana weights. I had shrimp and krill sents and down they went. We motored threw alot of trees,logs and sticks floating about. Looking for meter marks. We had the pleasure to troll along side Rseas for a bit and it sounded like I was doing good with what I had going. At 745 ish we got our first fish on and I yelled out fish on fish on. No one moved to get the rod they both looked at each other then at me. I crab the rod and started to reel and said someone get up to grab the rod and my Dad said he was good and my brother crabbed the net. I told him to take the pole and he insisted I do it. I told them I can fish for them another day but they still wouldnt take the pole. What seemed a long and stressful time not wanting to lose the fish every time I would get close to the boat she would run my brother finally netted the fish and in the boat she came. Just as he pulled the net over the rail out poped the hook and out the net on the floor went the fish. Talk about lucky. I seen Rseas looking our way so I held up the nice fish and in the cooler she goes gear back down and we did some circles in the area in search for the school we went through. After fishing Baker since the opener I finally got the stink off my boat. We say a few others caught but didnt get another bight. I did snag bottom and lost my setup on one with a banana weight but as someone once told me we rent fishing gear we dont own it. I rated this as a 4 because I finally got a baker lake sockeye in my boat. It was a beautiful day and it was fun fishing with my Dad and brother. We went to the fish trap and looked at the fish. We had a nice lunch at Cascade burger which they thought was great. My dad dosnt think that Sockeye and kokanee are the same and after visiting the trap was convinced we caught a blueback and not a sockeye and I said there the same think. It made for a long 3 hours ride home and the internet is wrong too. Man it cracks me up. I did fillet all the fish we caught and sent them home with them. We fished cavanah the day before. My brother has the pics on his camera and I forgot to download them before they left so as soon as I get them I will have to get them on here. We had a great trip and lots of fun. Happy fishing and dont forget were all there to have fun share the water and play nice.

nice how many boats out and see many cought they got almost tree thou in now.think get better week or two from now get chance for them move around get used to the lake.

There were a lot of boats out there at least a 100 and a sea plane. I had seen a few fish caught.

Always good to read about a successful family outing. Tell your father that Sockeye and Kokanee have the same relationship as Steelhead and Rainbows, one migrates to the salt the other stays home.

Thats funny G-man we talked about Steelhead and Rainbows. I even pulled it up on the online dictionary to show him. LOL

There are two types of kokanee as far as I know. Land locked sockeye and landlocked silvers. Just depends on what they put in the lake. Steelhead has kind of taken on a new meaning since I started fishing. I always thought a steelhead was a sea going trout, but I guess in the midwest they consider any rainbow over 20" a "steelhead".. Have you guys heard anything about this? I dunno I have always considered a steelhead different then a rainbow because of their sea run.
