My friends and I hiked almost 10 miles to Waptus lake on the 14th of July. I brought my pole and some gear just in case the lake had fish in it, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Fishing from the bottom with power bait I caught an 18 inch trout within the first 30 minutes. I thought it was a bull trout so I let it go after getting a couple pictures with it. I fished for about 2 hours and I caught two more as well, one at about 16 inches, and another at about 12. I'm posting a picture because I want to know if anyone knows for sure what kind of trout it is. It almost looks like a bull trout/brook trout hybrid.

the lake is reported to hold rainbow and brook trout, which is what that is.

Oooh. The body/spots look like a bull but the spots on the dorsal scream brook. Kudos to you on releasing it b/c you were unsure

What are the fishing regulations for Waptus Lake? Are they the same for the river? Would I need an overnight permit to stay the night?
