We decided to hold off going to Baker lake a day to let the weather get a bit better, and instead heded to near-by Stevens for some kokanee action.

Arrived at crack-o-dawn and had the gear down and fishing by 5:45. Four rods, staggered depths down to 55 feet to start, trolling 1.2mph. Conditions were light breeze and cloudy. Water temp 69.6. About a half dozen boats joined us for some pretty good action.

The morning bite lasted about an hour, culminating in a first for us – a triple – bites, anyway. We brought one in and two failed to stay hooked.

Things died down big time four two grueling hours, then, bamm, the action started again around 9am and lasted until we called it an early day at 11am. (gotta get the boat ready for tomorrow!).

Final tally – 7 fish in the boat. BTW, the WDFW access will be closed for a week, didn’t say why.

5:55 – 13.5” caught at 40 ft on bubblegum hoochie and dodger
6:25 – 14.5” caught at 65 ft on pink/silver hoochie with dodger
6:46 – triple hits! – caught 12” at 40 ft on amber wedding ring with dodger. Missed bites were 45 and 65 ft.
9:05 – 12.5” caught at 40 ft on amber wedding ring with dodger
9:19 – 13” caught at 50 ft on purple hoochie with bronze sling blade (changing up d/t slow period)
10:20 – 11” caught at 40 ft on amber wedding ring
10:25 – 12.5” caught at 70 ft on bubblegum hoochie with pink splatter sling blade
10:48 lost fish at 70 ft on bubblegum hoochie with pink splatter sling blade

All gear running scented shoepeg corn and gulp maggot. Hot spots marked. :-)

The launch will be closed as the City of Lake Stevens celebratges aqua festive.

Saw you on the Lake (I was the lone angler in a Green lund with bow mount electric). Got a late start - hooks in the water about 6:30 but managed to eke out 10 fish before 10. Had a number of drive bys and lost a few as well (unusual for Stevens). Got nicer fish deep (75 to 90) with 5 between 14 and 16 inches.

Probably my last kokanee trip - time to chase other critters. In spite of reports of doom and gloom had a great season on Stevens with larger fish than normal. Had to fish a bit harder than usual but from mid-May on limits were the norm.

Good luck on Baker - it has been fishing well with most fish around 20 feet down (15 to 35) over 40 to 50 feet of water.

Smalma, sure, we saw you too, nice job. Guess we should have worked deeper. Nice limit. It was our best day on Stevens so we were pleased. The hoochies are small - crappie sized. Yes Toni, totally hooked. :-)
