The flyrod had been calling me. I'd neglected it the last few outtings. Put it in the reservoir a little after 8am. Fished till 2:15pm. Morning weather was absolutely beautiful. Blue skies, gentle breeze, nice and quiet. Late afternoon the wind picked up just a hair but the temperature stayed warm, car's outside temp read 79 degrees as we were leaving but I felt it was more like mid 80's.

Trolled around in the pontoon trying woolly buggers of different sorts thinking this lake would match up similar to Blue Lake which is not to far away. Turns out that wasn't the case at all. The three fish I landed were all caught on a damsel imitation, I think it's called a "hot head damsel" in chartreuse. Got it from Orvis, looked good and I didn't have many damsel imitations. All caught near the north area where it's weedy. Found a few gaps in the weeds and trolled through them. Had an audience for all 3 fish. First fish was a 14" rainbow, great fight, it tried to inhale the whole fly. 2nd was about a 10-11" smallmouth that took the fly as I was letting out line to troll, I found it hilarious. Probably only had 15 feet out as I was kick finning and stripping the line out. 3rd fish was a 15-16" rainbow which I think could have been a triploid. I've seen fish fatter then this that weren't triploids but I know they plant them here in Conconully so I just assumed. Maybe you all can be the judge. Head to body ratio or something, I don't know how to tell them apart. It was a good 1.5 pounds and it must have done, gosh I don't know, 5+ aerials. It slammed my rod harder then any fish I've caught and took out 15-20 feet it felt. I thought for sure I'd lose it. I had the barb crimped and this guy wasn't tiring out. So after the aerials, I finally get it to the pontoon, lead it back and forth then finally try to net it, I fail, it's too fat, but it stayed on, got it the 2nd time. Hook falls out in the net, hah. It was the biggest fish I've had on the fly rod yet. Absolutely loved having a fish on there that could run. Having the pressure of an audience only added to the excitement.

So these three fish were all caught in the same area of water. Soon as I left it the other group of people fishing pulled right in there haha.

Glad I had better luck here then last time, I know I tried all sorts of different streamers this time around till I found one that caught fish.

Tight lines.

Glad to hear you are getting out. Even a small bass on a fly rod must be a lot of fun. You should put your pontoon into Connors lake, just kitty corner to Reflection Pond.
