This is the third time I've given Union a try and I must be doing something wrong. I fished all over this lake last night and I just can't see any areas that look bassy for largeys, and I don't have a fish finder so finding deep rocky cover for smalleys is a pain. The areas I hit fairly hard was the area right out in front of gas works, any little inlets I could find on the eastside, all the coves on the southside and then all along the piers and docks on the westside. I've marked 3 spots that I just felt had to hold some fish but didn't produce.

I am fairly sure it comes down to lure selection, I've been throwing a bunch of bright spinnerbaits and smaller crankbaits, but I just don't think I am getting it down far enough. When I anchored up I was usually in at least 20 feet of water, and sometimes up to 40 feet, and I think all my spinnerbaits and crankbaits were in the top 15 feet of the table.

I am probably going to try texas-rigging some grubs tonight and see if I have any better luck, because I've gone three different 4 hour bass fishing trips without a hit now and I obviously need to try something new. If I don't get any luck with that I'll probably switch to a rattle trap and try to let it sink for a good 10-15 seconds before starting my retrieve.

I've heard some people posting some decent spots on here, but I'm having problems finding them on the map, so any additional guidance would be appreciated. Also, does anyone use any bait and/or attractant? Has anyone fished it with jig and pigs?

I know the feeling, Union seems so unpredictable, particularly mid summer. Ive only fished from shore around the perimeter of Union lately with no luck. I mainly fish in Fremont canal but I've given up there cause no bites at all. It's much better late spring or late summer using plastics off the bottom, spinner baits and crank baits. Plus boat traffic and polutants don't help. There's some nice looking spots on the eastside of the lake under I-5 where houses are over the water leaving nice cover for bass, but don't know if they are there even. Also, never seen a largie out there, only smallmouth. Finicky fish I say!! Good luck!

I believe I've seen you out there. Leave spinnerbaits alone unless it's really windy (as I think this, I still have one tied on ha). Invest in a good drop shot rig and you'll catch good numbers all over the lake. Keep fishing it and adjusting, they move all over the place. There are some nice smallies in there. The largies are mostly in the south end. Theres thousands of them but there mostly stunted.

Probably, I've been out the last 3 days hitting mostly there in front of gas works where it looks like it'd be a primo smally area, although I've been all over. I did nothing but drop shotting yesterday and just couldn't seem to find them. I'm heading up north for the weekend, but I'll probably be out again next week after work.
