Last Monday was my fourth attempt at bass fishing in silver lake. Finally got one. Granted I literally have the lake as my backyard, so I do fish a lot. Anyways.. I went to my spot (Southern point) except instead of bringing the usual sinkers and powerbait eggs for trout, I rigged a 4.5 inch yamamoto swimming senko (watermelon w/ black specks) on a Matzuo 2/0 sized wide gap hook - Texas style (bullet weight and bead). Cast from the shore at two separate lillypad locations and got nothing, not even a bite. Decided what the hell, might as well throw the line out in the open water, So I cast straight out about 20' or so and let it sink. Counted "1, 2, 3, 4," lifted my rod tip and slowly let it back down."1,2,3" Did a couple jerks "1,2,3,4,5" Jerk.. ~BITE. I wasn't expecting it so I didn't set it quick enough. So I reeled in and cast back out in the same spot and continued to get bites over and over, cast after cast, never was able to get a solid hookset. I was excited but pissed. An odd feeling if you ask me. Excited that there is some sort of warm-water grub eater trying to eat my bait fish, but pissed that i couldn't hook it. I thought... well maybe its a small perch or something that cant get the hook in its mouth. So I re-rigged the same setup except with a regular worm hook but about the same size. First cast, Bite, Set and the fight was on.. Thought I had a triploid on or something.. Anyways.. it was about a pound and a half or so.. just right in the rocky bottom about where the weeds end from the shore.

Also that day are the 3 trout I caught with a sinker and pink powerbait eggs.

Good report Neil. I live right by the lake too but don't fish it due to no boat launch.
