Fished Banks the last 2 days. 8/20 and 8/21. Used top water frogs mostly through the slop and senkos, worms around the edges of the slop. Had only one big hit on top water frog right when it was almost at the boat reeling in and lifting my bait up he hit. He was a pretty nice size bass. Other than that nothing. Fished Jones bay and osbourne bay. I also tried along hwy 155 for smallmouth. I fish banks many times a year but this year seems to be the worst for me with bass. Its almost always great bass fishing. There was nobody else I saw out on the water fishing for bass the whole 2 days I fished it. I have heard rumors that the bass fishing has been tough lately because they keep pumping cooler water into banks but who really knows. I figure its been so hot over there they have moved to deeper water or hiding in the most thickest slop. I hit really hard to get spots also with no luck. I will be back over in about 2 1/2 weeks to try it again and hopefully not get skunked!! Anybody got any clues where the bass are?!

Maybe it's because they dropped the water levels during last winter.

@ FishingFool Maybe but all the weed beds have grown back already around the lake. I think it has to do with the water temp if I had to guess. During spawning time people where catching them left and right. I got a couple towards the end of spawning season

This is bad news! I'm taking a 10 day trip to steamboat starting next sunday. Last year we absolutely killed the large mouths because the level was down 25 ft. But I guess karma may get us this year. Can I ask if the milfoil has grown back???

@Red beard Yeah milfoil in places. Plenty of weed beds for the bass to hide in osbourne and jones bay. Next time iam over iam gonna do night fishing to see if its better. Its so hot during the day maybe the bite is off.

You are not alone my friend.
Fished walleye and smallmouth on N. end of Banks hard, August 22 and 23. Worst days of fishing in the last 30 years of fishing that lake. Never mind the usual 20 mph ocean waves at the end of each day, the rest of the day sucked for quality and quantity. Kitchen sink was tossed including cranks and worn harness, 50 feet to 15 feet. It was so bad we retreated to Rufus on August 24 but could not break the 5 pound range down there for slim rocket Tripps.

planning a bachelor trip on the 15th sept. we were planning to go to banks and camp somewhere where we can drink at night. fish during the day. never been to the lake, any suggestions on where we might try to catch smallies and maybe walleye less than a ten mile boat ride from some camping. ideally we would want to load up the boats and find our own spot somewhere to camp. might be bad fishin though? what are the thoughts on potholes instead?

@ nickthestick well the lake is 27 miles long. Depends on where you will be fishing and camping...the north end or south end? North end is good bass fishing in the bays and along hwy 155 rip rap. South for smallies and walleye along the hwy 2 dry falls dam and along the rock piles are ok. I don't fish much walleye so I couldnt really tell ya. Stop in at big wallys along hwy 2 in coulee city and get info for the walleye bite at the bait shop is your best bet. They are really helpful. They also do a report every week on there site www.bigwallysfishing.com
