Trying to patch things up with my girlfriend and what better thing to do than go fishing. Her idea by the way. Took her out to Sprague and found that it was windy with white caps. Trolled my usual track a few times with the only excitement being a snag. Then we anchored up behind one of the islands to get out of the wind and tried some bottom fishing with no luck. It was a pretty horrible day of fishing so we decided to troll back to the launch and call it a day. A couple hundred yards out I told her to look at the people fishing on the bank, when she turned around I grabbed her line and held it by the side of the boat. When she turned back I started tugging on the line and she got really excited and went for the pole. She wasn't to happy when she realized it was me. 5 seconds later her pole doubles over, line starts stripping out like crazy and I figure she's snagged again. I tell her to hold the pole still and I see it bobbin and realize I better get the net. Now I'm freaking out cuz I know it's big. A couple minutes later (felt like an eternity) she brings the fish in perfectly and I get him the net. I didn't have a scale but I guesstimated him to be around 5 lbs. 2 days later and she's still bragging about it. What a great end to an otherwise bad day of fishing.

HA HA HA! Thats a great story!!! I especial like how you said the purpose was to 'patch things up' and then "When she turned back I started tugging on the line..." Still chuckling about that move! WTF.... glad it worked out w/ such a nice-5LB recovery rather than a lecture on the road home... I always wondered whether you could hear the traffic on i-90. I went to EWU in the 90's and always thought about fishing that lake, but preferred Amber Lake/etc. We could keep trout there back then.

Yes Jethro, you can hear the 90 traffic but it pales to those loud ass trains.... Very nice fish murph! Did you two attempt to eat it? I've found the bows to be quite muddy this late in the season.

Yeah the trains suck, about one every hour. We let him swim away. I haven't kept anything out of there since the 4th of July and I think that was pushing it.
