I wanted to make a brief write up on my experience today on American. Additionally, wanted to thank those who share their success on here!

Launched at 0645 from Russell Landing, still dark, mist, light wind and little to no traffic on the lake.

Just prior to 0700, I had my first Kokanee on! It was minutes after I put my gear in the water and had not even poured my first cup of coffee, so needless to say, I was a bit surprised and immedately busy!
DR was at 35', Pink splatter type dodger, homemade standard Pink Hootchie with one maggot on trailing hook. Location was heading north, between the public launch and the VA Hospital at approx 1.2MPH.

The bite immediately dropped off, with only one Perch being caught. I varied speed, depth, lures, color, trolling patterns without anymore hits.

Approximately 1130, I switched to a silver dodger (Shasta I think!) with a prism type inlay trailed by a Dick Nite 50/50 small spoon, tilpped with a maggot. DR was at 35', speed 1.4MPH, south to southeast heading, approximately 200 meters to the east of the VA Pier. Rod went crazy and after a great fight and what I was sure was my second Koke of the day, a very nice sized, robust Rainbow came up to the boat.

I called it a morning and returned back to the marina.

My pics leave much to be desired as I am usually alone, but will work on my technique!

Thanks guys! Steve

Nice fish! I have found that if you are catching nothing but bows/cutts, try going 5 or more feet deeper. The kokes like the cooler water below the bows. This has worked for me several times. See you on the water (little Hewes with orange WALakes flag) and we can swap info.
