Traffic was pretty good this Friday morning. Nice surprise.
Started off with a needlefish. 5 mins into trolling and I get my first bite with fish on! Looks and feels small. Get it to boat side and see it's a small ~9-10" kok. I let it shake off at boat side.
Put the pole back in and 5 mins later, I get another fish on! But from the feel, I'm betting perch. Get it close, confirm it is perch. Released at boat side.
A few mins into trolling, I get a couple of quick nips, then it was dead for me for the next hour. No wind at all on the lake. It was very calm. Eventually, I get my first cutt about a little after 1 hour of fishing. ~15" or so.
I brought wool socks with me today. I put them on, soon after I started trolling, but my toes were still frozen for the 1st hour or so, lol. Might have to bring some of those heating pads with me next time to help out.
Anyways, I go over a few schools of fish, and I didn't see any reaction bites to my needlefish. So I put on my red wedding ring. I make a couple of passes and got a few very small nibbles or bumps. I got over a school and get a solid strike. Reeling it in, it feels heavy, but not very active. I get it close and see it's a pretty nice sized squawfish. I get it into the next and prepare it for the birds....
Keep on with the wedding ring. I try changing depths on the lead core, but catching fish and getting bites was very hard. Saw a few more nips here and there, but I'm confident it was all perch.
Tried a small dick nite for a bit. After about 3 hours of fishing, there's finally a little bit of breeze breaking the water surface. It was actually perfect water/wind conditions IMO, but still no fishy. I saw pletny of them on sonar. I start trolling back towards the park and switch to a needlefish. As I'm packing up, I get a strike. Get it to boat side and see it's a 10" rainbow. Let that one shake off too.
So 4 fish today, 4 different kind. Tough fishing.
