Met friend Pete at Green Lake for some Rainbow fishin'. Fishing has been "good" to "great" for Pete the past couple of weeks, but when I have joined him on Saturdays the past two weekends, not so much! Anyway, got to the lake about 7:00AM, was fishing by 7:20, on the northeast end of the lake. Temp was on cool side, but no wind or rain early... lake was in great shape for fishing. Water temp at the shoreline was 54 degrees, about perfect for trout activity. By 8:00, Pete reeled in the first Rainbow, a feisty 13"er... (he ALWAYS gets the first one!!!). A few minutes later I caught my first, the biggest of the morning, at 15", about ten minutes later I caught my second, about 14" (both of these were on marshmallows and worms). Then Pete caught two more, and I one more, and by 9:30 we had six fish and the bite was over. For the next two and a half hours, only a few subtle bites to show for our patience.
By about 11:00 the wind really began to blow in earnest... followed by a pelting rain... at noon, Pete announced that he had had enough and was heading home (he is much older and wiser than me!). I figured I would hang out until the weather became intolerable (close to that then!). At five minutes after noon, as Pete was getting into his truck... FISH ON! and I reeled in my fourth of the day... I baited up again, and... no lie... the line had not settled to the bottom and I caught my fifth trout and headed home... just as a "gully washer" hit and the wind went Berserko!
The trick for the day, what caught most of the fish, was a "cocktail" of Power Eggs (predominately red or orange, with at least one chartreuse on the hook). That, and a shorter leader than we've been using, about 2-2 1/2', so it seems the fish are holding closer to the bottom now. All in all, we caught eight big, beautiful Rainbows, from 12" to 15" in length. The color, brightness and the fight these fish bring, can not be overstated. The second fish I caught had the unmistakeable marks of an eagle's talons across the back, which can clearly be seen in the last photo.
I continue to be amazed at the amount of activity that goes on at this lake daily. The numbers of ducks, grebes, and other assorted waterfowl, plus the fishing of eagles and ospreys makes for an enormous amount of pleasure to be gleaned from a visit to this large urban lake, not to mention the constant traffic of people and their pets make a fishing trip to Green Lake a very, very unique and joyful experience! PTL!

Nice going (again!!) Stan, I was going to go there yesterday, thought it was going to rain earlier, my loss. Ended up going to BigBass Dez Swapmeet in Bellevue, pick-up a nice Quantum reel, but would have rather been out there with you. Way to go,....

Thanks NE1... your comments are always so kind and encouraging. Saturdays are mostly all I can set aside for fishing (my joy) so I get out, rain, sleet, etc., etc. Congrats on the score on the Quantum... will add to your fishing joys, I am sure. Would love to meet you sometime... Perhaps at Green Lake, when we are both "knockin' 'em dead". PTL!

thats a good mess of fish in those pics..
the lake is truly awesome for watching of all kinds, ducks, eagles, turtles, occasional karp you see in the shallows close to shore, people, etc.. it has it all

my son (6yrs old) and I stopped at the lake on saturday around 2pm.. in 15 minutes he hooked 2 triploids and lost them both close to the dock. soon after, it started down pouring so we went home. we should come here more often! its 5 minute from my house.. gonna try and make a day over Turkey weeekend.. i didn't know it was so active this late in the season.. i'm always chasing salmon in fall..
