Launched out of Suncrest with my buddy Glenn in his boat on a quest for Crappie. Headed downriver and tried a couple of our favorite spots. At first no luck, then we found a bunch of Crappie at our second stop. The fish were holding right on the channel edge in 35'-55' of water. We had a stretch of about 75' that we worked for the better part of 4 hrs. Our setup was a drop shot rig with two hooks spaced at about 1.5ft and 3ft. At first Glenn was spanking me bad, he ended up with a 3-1 advantage for the day. We totaled a little over 40 crappie, 6 perch, 4 squaw dogs (now Eagle bait) and one large sucker. The trick for Glenn was a lack of movement, he just let his sinker sit on the bottom and drag as we slowly worked the area. I on the other hand kept trying to impart some action which turned the fish off. I won't say I am stubborn but if I had tried Glenn's' do nothing method I would have had better success. I finally caught on just before we called it a day. The color was a big factor as well with black/chartreuse and very dark green/chartreuse working best. Both 1.5 to 2 inch swim baits and tubes worked well. To say it was a lite bite would be an understatement, most of Glenn's bites were nothing more than a slight loading up of the rod tip, or if you were lucky one very soft tick. The weather was very mild for the end of November with hardly any wind or other boats. We saw 3 other boats, only one, a Skeeter, appeared to be fishing. Water temp was 46-48 degrees.

Looks like an amazing day. How big were these crappie? They looke like some pretty good sized slabs.
Great report

They averaged 11-13 inches in length (no long lake monsters), the perch were 10-11 inches.

Hey CCTMark,
I was the guy in the Skeeter with my oldest son. Looks like you had a great day. We caught several nice smallies and my son landed a 6.8lb green girl in 14 feet of water.
