Went to Fourth of July for the winter-only open with my son. There were about 30 vehicles and a F&G official in the parking lot. We reached fishable water by about 8:00 AM. My son landed a 20" 3.7lb bow in about 10 minutes using a trout pattern spinner. I had a nice hit about a half an hour later on a silver Castmaster but missed 'em. My son stuck with the same spinner, while I tried several casting selections, with and without bait - none worked. About 10 minutes after I went to a worm with a power bait nugget, I had a solid bite. The big bow came off right at the shore as I was trying to drag her up on the rocks (we didn't bring a net - dumb) - the next couple of hours were pretty cold, as I jumped in the water to grab the fish. I won the fight with the 19"er, but I was soaked from the knees on down (I'm glad there is no video of that event ...). We both got one more bite in the next two hours before getting blown off the lake - the wind was really getting wild. All in all, a fun day and two very nice trout.
