Decided to try 2 tactics today - one planner board and one downrigger at various depths Tried both spoons and rapalas in different colors but just couldn't get any strikes on the planner board. So then switched both rods to downriggers running at various depths. Both cutts came in the 50 to 60 ft range and both about 18". Nothing to get too excited about. Would have released them but both bleeding from the gills. Cleaned both and one had bright red meat while the other was a washed out gray color. Not sure what that was about but might be what they have been feeding on. Both caught on set-up as shown here (Abe & Al w 40" leader and then apex). Water temp is a cold 47 degrees.

What is the tube type looking thing in line, between the double red hooks? Does not appear to be beads.

Not a bead but a plastic g[ow-in-the-dark spacer from another lure. I make it a habit to retie my lures to be sure the knots are "right".

I have caught many cutts that have the "white" meat. I can't tell a difference in taste. I have also caught a handful of kings over the years that were "white" meat. This summer fishing out of Neah bay I asked a fisheries biologist what the deal was. A buddy of mine feels that it's diet, white kings eat herring and red kings must eat krill or something. So the biologist said they don't really know, but the best evidence is that it is actually a genetic thing, not diet and that a large percentage of Frasier River kings are the white variety. On the flip side, the farm raised atlantic salmon that you can (but shouldn't) buy at the store is fed a meal with ground up shrimp exoskeleton for a few months prior to slaughter to give the meat a more red color. So, who knows, I don't.
