Never fished American Lake before, my buddy and I live in Bremerton, after reading an article on kokanee we decided to try it. Left the WDFW boat launch and trolled out to the south west corner of the big island with some wedding rings. Saw a few fish stick their head out of the water, think we might have scared 'em didn't get a bite. Wind was out of the south so we drifted to the north pretty much to the seaplane dock, then trolled east in between the buoys and the docks of the houses on the north end, still nothing. Decided to anchor near a buoy and cast some power bait towards the docks we caught 3 rainbows 12-15 inches before the wind started to pick up. Decided to start heading home and then the motor died, After about an hour or so bucking the wind with just the trolling motor (had a fish hit a wedding ring, jump, and then got off so maybe a kok?) we had to moor up at someones private dock. Someone finally came along and towed us back to the WDFW ramp, thanked him with our 3 'bows a half a pack of elk jerky I had one me.

Once you figure out what the fish want on American its a great lake. Its still pretty early to see what the koke fishing is going to be like this year. I am assuming you read the article in the washington oregon fish and game magazine?
Too bad about your engine better luck next time! Great report.
