The wind was blowing like crazy but After having knee surgery on Tuesday of last week I was dying to get out and do some fishing!
I caught 1 that was right around 15 inches and 2 that were in the 8 inch range. I only fished for a couple hours because the wind and cold was a little crazy. When I got to the dock at about 9 I could still see my breath and that was the case for most the morning.
I was trying some new things today, I tried some Pautzkies Firebait (i think that s wahat is is called) It is like powerbait but made by Pautzkies. I tried it for about an hour and did not have any luck so I decided to go back to my tried and true. I used everything the same but switched back to lemon lime power eggs and almost right away had my first fish on. I probably could have caught five fish but one of my rods I was using this morning is one of my downrigger rods (just wanted to try it) and I missed 3 solid hits but the rod just did not have any backbone and the hook did not set. I did end up catching the larger of the 3 and 1 of the small ones with that rod it just took a little while to get used to.
Fishing seemed a little slow this morning but after not fishing for a whole week it was good to see a little action. I gave it a 3 rating because it did not rain and the sun did eventually come out and I caught some fish. Not a bad way to start out the day.
In case you have not read any of my other post I use between a 4-7 ft leader, 1/2 oz egg sinker, 4lb leader, and power eggs. This has been the most successful so far this year.
I took my boat out on Friday because I was having surgery on Tuesday and figured I would not be out in the boat for a while and I did not catch anything. I was not targeting trout (pretty easy to catch this time of year trolling with an apex) but was going just for Kokanee and got skunked. It felt good to get the boat out for the first time this year though.
Hope to see lots of you out on the water soon.

Hey MIke, way to tough it out! I know what you mean though as I have tried the firebait and never really had much luck. My tried and true is orange gulp power bait with sparkles. I am hoping the weather and work cooperates because I really want to get out there on Friday! I'll look for you on the dock if you are out there! Can't wait for the water to warm up soon and the kokanee's get on the bite!

Thanks for report. Hopefully, in another 2 to 3 weeks the bite will pick up.

I talked to a friend who suggested that using a trebble hook works much better for the firebait so I am going to give that a try.
Salmonbarry I should be around Friday I will look for you!

Hey Mike, just had a customer make an appt. for 11am in Tacoma so no boat but may run down and see what's shakin' on the dock. Also going springer fishing Sat. on the Columbia but on the way back plan on stopping at Riffe and fishing near the dam with my daughter. I will let you know how it went since you are planning on going Monday
