Have to admit, I really didn't fish much at all - mostly wanted to wet-test a boat inherited from my grandfather, and one that has been sitting around for 13+ years unused. Took it out ostensibly on Scooteney for perch, but really just to get a feel for the boat and to assess the upper lake with electronics.

Not much happening, from what I could tell of other fisherman. Most boats were working the first island on the right as you launch. Didn't see anyone catching anything.

Was kinda shocked regarding the lake - it would go from 10' to 60'+ in literally 50 yards ( by the cliffs past the camping area). Was highly conservative moving around, given my unfamiliarity with the lake. Severe changes in depth seem to be common on the right hand side of the upper lake. Banged an emerald shiner on a jig around the first island, but wasn't serious about fishing. Too late to hit the perch on the spawn, from my assessment. Very windy, with a nasty chop. After about an hour and a half, I was happy to get off. The old boat was pretty good, but did have a terrifying moment where it jarred off the coupler, crushed my license plate, and only the safety chains controlled the situation. Clearly the couple needs replacing due to rust and age.

After having enough stress, I got the boat off the lake, grabbed my bow, and went up to the upper wasteway (where it enters the lake). Shot three carp (should have shot eight or nine - haven't got the intuitive shooting feel yet), which saved the day and thus substantiates my rating.

Oh welll, a mediocre day. But positive in the sense my grandfathers boat is sound given a couple of cheap repairs, and that carp-shooting season has started.. :)
