Got on Tapps by 7:30 at the North Park outside Auburn. Couple other boats on the lake. Gate is open, but no guard shack collecting money yet. Hit 3 spots without a bite about mid lake. Went to the South areas by Snag Island sort of and got a bite, then 15 min later caught one SMB. Fished another 1/2 hr without a bite. Moved to the North end around 10am, fished for another hour then finally found some fish on a shallow hump. Caught one more. My buddy Dave lost 2 good ones at the boat. All in all a good day for my first time on the water since October (had medical issues all winter)
One fish was in murky (6 inch visibility) the other in very clear (12 foot visibility) water. BOTH were in 2-3 ft of water!!! Thank God I thought of giving up on the deep water. Also, my drop shots couldn't beg a bit. All they would hit was tubes in different sizes (we were using my own custom poured Tubes) Temps were 53-55 deg. I don't really think these fish were really "pre-spawn". I still believe "winter pattern" is the way to fish it, but on a day like Wednesday, these fish were coming up shallow to feed around rocks and stumps due to the high Hot sunlight on that particular day. Bites were happening till after like 9-10 am. -Peace
