EVer had one of those days were you knew you shoulda just stayed home? today was one of those... (gonna be ranting a bit here)

First thing in the morning the starter doesnt wanna turn the the ye ole cummins over, hooked up the battery charger and she fired off. Mild hiccup.

On the way to the gas station to get some gas for the boat I get pulled over for a tail light out.

Get to the boat ramp in town and the damn rowers are there. Which brings me to this, when they start doing they im gonna start refusing to pay the city of lake stevens $7 dollars because the want to close down the WDFW access launch, all that does is put money in their pockets that shouldnt be there. We have to deal with a major road block in the middle of the lake and listen to them damn coaches yelling they least they could do is allow WDFW permit holder to launch for free if the rowers are there.

Now onto the fishing. Launch the boat and buzz across the lake. Squiddy-thang on one rod with a double-d set in the #3 hole, 30 pulls. Kokaneekid Fishing Bug with a double-d set in the #2 hole on the other. trolled for about 15 min and watched a school of fish jumping toward my boat, Boom! rods go crazy! squidy-thang dangling out of an airborns fish mouth. look over and the other rod is doubled over! left it figuring it had a good hook set and just free spooled it with the clicker on. As im netting the first fish i swooped it up, in the process removing the hook from the fishes mouth, kokanee lives to see another day. Fish on the second rod has managed to also remove the hook from its self. Good mood has now gone out the window. Rebait, rescent (procure deadly dunken) and start trolling thru a very long lull in the fishing excitment. everyone was giving the thumbs down, 6 other boats, and the fish stopped jumping. At about 1030 my trolling motor started vibrating, made a wierd clunk, then got very quite as the boat stopped moving. Pull it up to investegate and the old 35lbs Gamefisher Spit the prop! at this point the rods come up and i head for the truck.

However 2 positive things came from today, #1 bad day of fishing beats a good day at work, and #2 i know have the perfect excuse to upgrade to a new trolling motor that doesnt drain the battery so fast. This weekends events will leave little fishing time. Another 2 week break from fishing :(

Tough day but better to have all this shake out now than when the fishing really turns on. Way to keep a positive attitude.

Damn! That is a whole lot of bad, to happen in one day. Boat light result in a warning? City has there own boat ramp, and parking lot. Yet they take over the public ramp? Ummm, does city dollars or fishing license fees maintain the WDFW ramp? Wouldn't everyone launching a crew boat, and or parking, need a WDFW parking permit ?

As bad a day as that would be. Somehow it seems, it could have been worse. Glad you got your lines wet, recieved a couple tugs on the line, and made it home to start fresh on another day. Does the Lake Stevens Kokanee fishery appear to be a morning only show, again this year?

Dang, sounds like one hell of a day. What bugs me about the rowers is all those buoys they leave everywhere. Takes away from being able to use the lake. But oh well cant do much about it.

Yea, those buoys, I saw some big floats in the middle of the lake, assumed they were for water skiers. Was trolling from the west side towards the southeast, wrapped up both my downrigger cables in the lines securing the small buoys. Of course they're small and white and you couldn't see them with the chop on the water. Got untangled without damage but, it would be nice if they were a more visible color or if they would put up a sign at the launch warning you (I launched at Wyatt). Anyway fished for about four hours, mark tons of fish, no biters.

Okay here's the scoop. I contacted Iris Kye at DFW last year about this problem and here are the rules that the Regatta people are supposed to follow:
1. A designated event representative will monitor the launch to make sure there is clear access to the launch for fishermen during the event.
2. A row of trailer parking will be designated throughout the entire event for the public.
3. If there is no parking available, The event sponsor gives would be launch users the cost to park their vehicles and launch at Wyatt Park across the lake.
I have contacted Iris about this, and she is turning up the heat on the event people. If you have any problems like this in the future contact her at: kye.iris@dfw.wa.gov
The only time fishermen don't have access at that launch is during the Aqua Fest, usually in July I believe.
Pass the word around. Tight lines!

Thanks for the very helpful information on the boat launch. This will be utilized in the future as I have experienced this same issue in the past as well as seeing an increase during practice that they mill about in the boat ramp and lack an understanding of its primary use.
All others, please forward this information and report valid concerns to the misuse of the Stevens boat ramp.

It goes with the rule that is no ones says it's wrong, then it becomes ok.
