Well went out to Lake Leland today as a last minute decision, so didn't get to the lake until 1. Anyway, since it had been stocked with 6000 fish on the 1st, decided it would probably be decent fishing.
Already knew it was going to be a pretty good day, as no more than a minute after the first cast I had a fish on. Hooked 3 more before my grandpa could even get down to the dock. Ended up landing 10 fish, and lost maybe 20 more. Released 4 of the smaller fish, and kept the 6 larger fish. It was pretty constant all afternoon, and only slowed down a few times for no more than 15 minutes. All the fish were mostly small, about 6-8 inches with a few in the 10-12 inch range. But all fish were pretty active and fought good for stocker trout. I did land one nice 15 inch fish(The one I'm holding in the picture). I knew it was big, cause most of the fish would just play around with the bait, but with this one the float plunged straight down and stayed down. It took a good 5 minutes to land it on 4lb test and a tiny rod. It was actually my biggest trout out of Leland, that I have landed at least. All in all a pretty good day. It should be better in a few weeks, since most of the fish still need to get used to being in the lake, and most of the fish caught were still full of the hatchery pellets, so they weren't too hungry. Also, all fish caught were on weighted floats, and worms. Light tackle and half a worm about 3 ft below the float seems to be working best. Power bait doesn't seem to be working at all, as the few people that were fishing today, were using different colors of power bait and didn't do too well.
