My boy and i decided to hit lake Tapps this morning... only 2 other guys were launching at 6am, and both i think were Walakes members...

We started out directly south of the launch and caught our first 2 smallies within 45 minutes... one on a spinner and the other was caught on a shakeyhead... after that we moved east... and then south.... all in total we landed 11 smallies... 1 largemouth... the boy hooked into something huge!!! it just made the drag sing... and then it was gone... also had a tiger chase his crankbait all the way to the boat and we tried everything to get it to bite, nothing happened...

we used dropshot, squarebill cranks, lipless cranks spinnerbaits, shakeyhead...tube jigs too...

most were males... some of them were on beds... don't think the females have made it there yet... largest was 2.5 and most were closer to the 1.5 to 2 lb mark... it is so nice to have a scale now....

Good job 2hunt..Wondering where you saw smallies on beds? Most of the fish me and my buddies have gotten have been in 15 - 18 ft of water. We've put 9 muskies in the net over the last week in open water along with some big smallies. Not saying they are not up shallow but I haven't seen a single fish up in the shallows yet. Not even up in the stumps. No suckers, no bait fish.. nothing. The wind I think has blown all the cold water south maybe its wamer up there now? Remember too..there are those muskies out there maybe try a leader and you might be able to get that piggy that hit your sons' bait and won't get bit off next time. Good luck out there..Todd

found the bedded fish in the cove just to the east of snag island... not a lot of beds yet but they are starting... caught 2 of them along the road way running to the island...
