Got on the water about 7 and the wind was already howling. A quick bumpy ride and we were trolling with wind to save my batteries. Had my second pole in my hand but got lazy and set it down pinning it against a seat. 45 minutes later and the damn thing jumps over the seat and out the back of the boat. Thank god the reel caught the transom or I would be having a -5 star day. Anyways I finally get my hands on it and set the hook and... nothing. Reel up and at least I got a piece of his mouth. We decide to go almost all the way to the East end and start a long troll. A little ways in and my first pole bends over. I set the hook and nothing again. At least this time my friend saw the fish jump out of the water behind us so I feel a little better. Well the beer helped too. 1/2 an hour later I get another hit and this one stays on and starts stripping line. He puts up a great fight but I win and into the net he goes. I hooked up the next fish about the same spot on another pass. I told my friend this one was a lot smaller cuz he had no fight in him. Boy was I wrong. Then he saw the boat and the fight was on. First up the left side then over to the right with somehow keeping him out of the motor. When I saw his wound I thougt he was one of those tagged Cabelas fish. That would have been nice. He must have been spawning or getting close as he left a "stain" in my boat. He had a wound like that on both sides. I thought maybe it was from an eagle but there was no punctures, maybe from fighting or disease? I don't know. We called it a day after that. By the way my buddy never even got a hit using the same gear. I thing his can of chew had something to do with it.
