Per the topographical map of the lake itself, the shallower end is the northwest corner where the boat launch and outlet are located. Excellent underwater vegetation is prevalent here and mayflies, chironomids, and other aquatic organisms are plentiful. According to one veteran fisherman, the lake also boasts a healthy crawdad population.
Accordingly, I found excellent success fishing the northwest corner of the lake with an olive marabou scud/damsel imitation. There were significant numbers of drowned timber below. I was getting a hit about every cast, fishing in water no more than 20 feet deep. There was excellent visibility due to the clarity of the water and the angle of the sun.
Since I didn’t want to fish only one area of the lake, I used my float tube to fish the western side of the lake to the southwestern corner where an inlet is present. I caught only five or six fish in the two to three hours it took me to fish this side, round-trip.
Although I caught fish on a fly with brown marabou, the fish preferred the green. The best success came from fishing the shallows where the vegetation was abundant. The fish were well marked and the lake is in a beautiful setting.
