Had a pretty good day and the weather was perfect, 72º, high overcast and a light variable wind at about 5 mph. The surface temperature of the water was about 65º and the water was very clear. The insect activity was moderate with a few midge hatching. I noticed more adult damsel flies today and a few fish were hitting at them out in the middle of the lake. Not enough continual rise action to justify changing to a floating line.
Once again, the fish were laying close to the bottom. I didn't detect a thermocline on the fish finder. I started off using a green Wooly Leech which produced hits for a while then stopped. I changed to a wine colored Leech and the hits started to pick up again. Overall I lost about 10 fish on the retrieve because of my poor control of line tension. Once I corrected that, I was able to net 6 nice Rainbows, all fat and healthy. Several jumped out of the water a few times. All measured 18"+ and were released.
A cold front is moving into the NW tomorrow and the forecast is for much cooler and wet weather through the next five days. This should bring the water temperatures down to the lower 60's.
