5/22/2013 10:20:00 PMbuc, Just checking in to make sure you were fishing Long Lake in Stevens County.... and not Lake Spokane in Spokane County. They're not the same lake. Long Lake in Stevens is a small 14 acre lake that holds brown trout and small mouth bass. Eight miles SE of Colville.

5/23/2013 9:17:00 AMI realize few people call it by its correct name, but we try to keep things correctly sorted here. It is available in the system as Spokane (Long). It originates in Spokane County, so it is listed there only. We follow the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) setup by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

boyermtn: It's always been Lake Spokane ;). It's just that the drive to call it by the correct name has gathered some momentum in the last decade or so. It's no more Long Lake than Roosevelt is Lake Grand Coulee.

5/23/2013 12:43:00 PMHmmmmm I've lived here in Spokane for 64 years....always called it Long lake; never knew it as lake Spokane till later in life. Still Long lake to me; one side Spokane county and the other Stevens county. Nine Mile resort is in Spokane County 99026. Alan

5/23/2013 1:19:00 PMYou are correct Alan. Most people do call it Long Lake, and will continue to do so. Not sure where that started, but officially, in the books, that is not it's name. As for it crossing county lines, we have to keep things together here on the site, and it originates in Spokane, so it's listed in Spokane. The USGS lists it as a Spokane County resource similar to the way it categorizes Rivers belonging to the county where it originates. It's all good, I just want everyone to know where it is located in our system so it can be fully utilized.

5/24/2013 6:40:00 AMIt truly is unimportant what it's called, but I do find the topic interesting. I moved to the area in 1969 and lived a mile from this lake. At that time it was called Long Lake by everyone I know of. I never heard the Lake spokane thing till a few years ago. If the real name is Lake Spokane, I wonder why they refer to it as Long Lake and Long Lake dam?? I think I'll look into that. :)
