I fished from the shore at the first Ponderosa Pine trees along the northwest shoreline, about 1 mile south of the parking area near the Washington State Veterans Cemetery. There were two groups of two bait fisherman also fishing nearby, and they each caught their limit of 5 small Rainbow Trout in the 2-1/2 hours I was there. I was using a 1/4-oz. silver Kastmaster slab-jig, and casting/retrieving it from shore with a sideways jigging/twitching motion. I only caught one Rainbow Trout, but it was a BIG 19" fighter which I'm having for dinner tonight (see photo). There were three small Rainbows that "got off" my lure when I could not pull them through the algae mats near the shoreline.
Although I was not that successful today, the baitfishermen had OK success with their (unknown) bait that they were fishing on the bottom. Judging by the shoreline garbage that I picked up at my fishing spot, I think that fluorescent green PowerBait is very popular here at West Medical Lake.
