Humbled by no success at Lake Lenore, my friend Russell Johnston and I made our way to Burke Lake for some afternoon catch and eat trout fishing.

The lake was very crowded. There were probably a couple of hundred fishermen (and women) fishing the sun drenched waters. To the accompaniment of disco music blaring from an RV across the lake (No.....I should not be dancing, yeah), we struggled to throw off the curse of the skunk the fishing gods had imposed on us this day.

We did see others catch fish, including a few who would walk up beside us, throw in some powerbait, and pull out a trout within a minute or so. Despite this, and the dark looks we gave these lucky few, fishing was slow during the afternoon. We saw nobody limiting or even catching multiple fish. The size of the fish were smaller than last years, averaging 8 to 10 inches in length.

Fishermen that had been there for most the day said that the angling was very good in the morning, but pretty slow for most of the afternoon. Continuing our cursed efforts at landing a single fish, we had to agree with the afternoon assessment.
