Decided that I would spend a sunny evening fishing, so chose Shady as its close to my house and had just opened for the year. Immediately, I realized why this lake is a hassle. Shady has a public boat launch, which some people don't realize is a BOAT LAUNCH. For those of you that don't understand this concept, it's the area of the lake where people with boats can use the provided ramp to launch and retrieve their boat. It's not the area to set up folding chairs, stab your rod holders and stare wildly agitated at the person backing the BOAT up to the LAUNCH. **See returnofthefish's response below for ethics.

Anyways, got on the water and trolled with a green wedding ring with powerbait for a few hours. Most of the action came between 6:45pm - 7:45 pm. Ended up getting 3 stockers successfully into the boat, all in the 10"-12" range.

Around 8:15pm I got off the lake and again dealt with the same hassle as explained in the first paragraph.

Shady looks to be great for people with float tubes or boats which don't require a ramp. Unfortunately for me, I usually fish solo and need the assistance of a ramp. Needless to say, I will fish elsewhere. Rated a 3 due to Shady being a nice spot besides the launch.

TIP:
Lake Desire is maybe 1/2 mile away from Shady and has a dock provided for people to shore fish. Lake Wilderness is 10 minutes down Petrovitsky in Maple Valley and has probably 300+ feet to shore fish and a gigantic dock. If the people who shore fish at Shady somehow get fed up with people trying to launch their boats, I strongly suggest trying these locations. Then again, they might just decide to set up camp at the provided launch's at these locations too.

They changed the Shady Lake season to the lowland lakes opener this year. Its been open since the last Saturday in April this year. Guess you saw my report from opening day last year with the boat launch fisherman comments. They wouldn't reel in their lines when boats where coming in or out on opening day last year. I would of been annoyed by them so that's why I posted what I posted so people would be more courteous there. After all its a boat launch and not a fishing dock. Havn't been back there fishing since last year.

Next time, if there is one, call the game department. It is illegal to block a boat launch, and it carries a heavy fine with it. The game warden will come out or suggest that you contact the police department, and they will come out to take care of the problem. If you mention loudly enough for them to hear, that you are calling the game warden, they will usually clear out of your way. I used to fish this lake, but haven't done so in three years,due to it being generally fished out after opening weekend.
