Buddy and I tried Nahwatzel for the first time. We got there late at about 10AM while the sun was still behind cloud cover. Only a couple of other boats were on the water- both trolling for trout. We talked to one of them later and they caught four rainbow between them. We tried still fishing with Berkley Strike and discovered the lake bottom is covered with a heavy deep carpet of aquatic weed. Using slip sinkers we spent more time pulling weeds off the rigs then fishing. Very slow day and not a nibble until an hour on the water. I pulled in a very nice 14 inch rainbow. A half hour later another about the same size. The sun came out and the fishing dropped off. My buddy finally caught a 12 incher after another hour. By then the heat was sweltering and the other boats had left the water except for a water skier. We continued for awhile. Spotted suspended fish with the locator and tried spinners but to no avail. By 2PM we'd had enough and headed in for the day. Next time we'll get there earlier and try our luck.
