One the water around 6:45am, fished until noon. Was really wanting to catch kokanee but they continue to snub me on American, have yet to catch 1 there! It will happen….
Anyhow we did have a great day catching rainbows! We ended up putting 14 in the boat and 1 nice cutthroat. The cutt was the biggest fish of the day at about 14”, the bows were all in the 11-12” range. DN dodgers, sling blades, red wedding rings/nickel blade, clear sparkle mini-hoochie/nickel blade were the tickets. Baited with worm or corn, didn’t seem to matter the bows would hit both. Trolled 30-40’ deep on the wire to try for the kokes until 9:30ish then finally gave up and trolled 10-20’ down and started hooking the bows pretty consistently from then on. Probably lost 6 or 7, the rainbows were angry and would go nuts when they got close to the boat. We hooked the cutt trolling east to west, 1 bow from south to north and the other 13 trolling north to south (all north of the island). The last two trips were my best outings on American and both times trolling north to south was important……
Good day out on the water and was happy to get off before the speedsters and heat really picked up! Tight line all.
