1st time member and 1st time writing a report so please bear with me.

I had read some reports on Lake Larsen on this website in preparation to go fishing for the first time in two years. I was targeting Crappie and had read that a marabou jig about 16" under a float had been fairly successful for other members, so I figured why not try it out.

Got out to the lake at around 7pm and was the only fisherman out there. The weather was warm and there was a very nice sunset. Tried a few casts from the pier with zero action and then moved west along the shoreline again with zero action.

I finally settled on a spot that was perpendicular to the edge of the pad field. Again I had zero action, but as luck would have it at around 8:15 on what I was considering to be the "last cast" of the day I got a hit and pulled in an 8" black crappie. Subsequent casts yielded several bites and misses, but I was also able to land a slightly smaller crappie as well. The action completely died off at around 8:45 and besides it was getting too dark to see my float. The trout were rising pretty regular though between 7:45 up until I left, it'd be nice to try a fly-rig in there at that time.

Best technique that worked tonight was a yellow 1/16th oz marabou jig rigged about 16" below a regular pencil float. I'd cast it out and let it settle for about 30 seconds before reeling in about 2 feet and then let it settle again for about 30 seconds, repeating this process.

The two crappies I took home were not quite big enough for a dinner, but they sure made a great snack on the grill with fresh oregano, salt, pepper, olive oil, parsley and lemon.

Glad you had some luck. I couldn't buy a bite earlier that day.
