Today was a pretty cool day. My grandparents are in town visiting from Phoenix so I could take my grandfather fishing. My grandfather took me fishing every time I’d visit the Tri Cities and while we lived there for a few years growing up. He misses fishing since moving to Phoenix and was excited to hear I had gotten back into it and got a boat. Picked Meridian because reports have been good and I really wanted to put him on my favorite fish.
We were fishing by 8:30 and grandpa had a fish on and off right by the boat by 8:45, welcome to kokanee fishing! I set him up with a DN pink splatter with a small pink wedding ring baited with corn and pink maggot. I started with a pink splatter too but with the pink mini-hoochie that’s been working at Angle with the same bait. Grandpa was 1 for 4 before I switched mine to a small pink wedding ring too. We fished that set up the rest of the time and ended up going 10 for ~22 by 11:30. We stayed on the south side and hooked up all along it, there was a good bite in the eastern half for about an hour from 10-11 and we picked up 6 doing circles in the area. We were fishing 20-25” down in 40-55’ of water.
We ate the kokanee for dinner at a family BBQ, everyone enjoyed it, good times and good eating! Hard to beat a day like today!
Also got to meet Lou Smith while he was mapping Meridian for walakes, nice to meet you Lou!
Tight lines all!
