I've been out playing, but this was the 1st fishing attempt in my new-to-me boat. Since I am still ironing out the routine and in learning mode decided to try something a little more low key to start with. I just picked up a pair of downriggers so Mike Carey suggested Lake Stevens for Kokanee. He brought all of the gear since I didn't have any (another shopping trip in my future).
We would have been there right at sunrise but the launch we were headed to was closed due to a street fair. Drove around the lake to the other launch, got everything set, launched the boat and drove back across the street and parked the truck. As I walked back to the boat I thought "huh, the back end looks lower in the water than the last time I took it out". THAT's when it hit me - I forgot the plug (as I said, still ironing out that routine). Mike jumped into the boat and turned the bilge pump on while I ran back to get the truck. I'd turned it on, but hadn't yet had a chance to test the pump yet - it works great! Boat out, water out, plug in and we are ready to fish!
We hooked & lost one before we were even able to get all the lines in the water, then a little while later C&R'ed a little trout, about 30 minutes after that we got another trout big enough to keep and then nothing..nothing.. nothing.
Fish-wise it was pretty much a bust, but learning curve-wise it was a great morning. Got to test the DRs and figure out the fish finder and gps all with no pesky fish to interrupt us!
Thanks Mike for the help, advice, and for bringing in the 1st of many keepers on my boat!!

Thank you Gringo. I'm still walking around muttering to myself... skunked, couldn't believe it! Great boat and there will be scores and scores of fish crossing it's gunnels in the near future I predict.

Don't feel bad about the skunking, i grew up fishing lake Stevens and she is a fickle b&#%. Great day to be on the water though.

Looks like she is going to fish well! It always helps to get the kinks worked out on calm waters.

Exactly. It was fun to do all the downrigger adjustments and tell gringo all the stuff he will still need to buy. :-)

Glad to hear about the new boat. You got one of the first lessons about boats cheaply. Don't forget the plug. Wait till you do that and are out in the lake. It can get exciting then.

I'm not sure, but I think I saw room for about 6 other rods off the side of the boat, not to mention I could see a sectional sofa along the side opposite Mike. (-:

Nice lookin boat, On the plug issue, I've got PLUG?, written on the inside stern of my boat with red magic marker. I have'nt forgot to put it in. But I've been at the launch with a boater who did, kind of delays things a bit. Just a thought & good luck on the water.
