I went to one of the smaller seeps lakes on the canal with the 3 man pontoon and the 2 dogs. Got there about 2pm and tried out topwater and new plastic jig bodies. Topwater got several swirls, but no takers. The jig plastics were another story. After going about a third around the lake, I dropped topwater and started with a watermelon firetail design. It was one fish after another till dark. The size was what tipped this to a 5+. One 19", two 18", two 17", two 15", and several in the 12-14" range, plus several perch, bluegill and dinks, and a few "in the no keep slot" largemouth. Lost count of the numbers, but a lot. Had to keep one Smallmouth due to a torn gill, but I'm kind of glad I did. You can see how fat these fish are, and I looked at stomach contents: He (and this was a big male) had 5 bluegill and perch in his belly.
It was a really blessed trip, with 80 degree weather and barely a ripple on the water. Had the lake to myself, and the girls (American Eskimo dogs) were greatly entertained. Also got a dozen watermelon from that stand at A road off of 26. Great melons for $2.50 each.
